The Hero's Burden is a story about a little prince who is trapped in a tower. Every day he reads the many books on his many shelves, and spends his free time paying tribute to their stories. His favourites are the ones about knights and princesses, and being trapped in a tower himself, he waits for the day someone will rescue him. He keeps hope, but as time goes on he starts to realise that he doesn't look very similar to the kind of person who gets rescued in his stories. For one thing, he's not a princess. Days go by, meals get eaten, books get read, hope starts to dwindle. Days go by, meals get left, books get abandoned and he soon gives up on the idea that anyone might want to rescue a prince.
Storyboard
This was an experimental project during my studies, the goal was to create an animatic, storyboarding the passage of time throughout a characters life. To how the years have affected this young character, once being enthusiastic and eager about a type of story that speaks to him, and then growing bitter and hopeless as the story proves to be nothing more than that. When following the books prove useless, he tries to take action into his own hands, and when that doesn't work, he starts to lose all hope until the right person finally comes along to help.
